Celebrating Our First Cohort & Keeping Up The Clean Fight

We’re kicking off the month of April with some exciting news: the completion of The Clean Fight’s inaugural cohort, featuring nine amazing companies who are building scale-ready technology solutions to decarbonize New York’s building stock.

Congratulations to 75F, BlocPower, CarbonCure Technologies, Enertiv, enVerid Systems, iHandal Energy Solutions, Peak Power, Phase Change Energy Solutions, and Radiator Labs! These nine companies bring everything from electrification, energy optimization and automation, intelligent buildings and next-generation materials to developers and owners in the real estate capital of the world.

After vetting over 150 companies, our first cohort were selected for their ability to decarbonize New York’s buildings with ready-to-install, breakthrough solutions that reduce energy usage and emissions, while making life safer, healthier and more comfortable for tenants.

Our story

When you think of New York City, one of the first images that comes to mind is its skyline -- the hundreds of buildings that have made the City iconic and allowed it to keep its reign as the real estate capital of the world. What’s less apparent, however, is the carbon impact these buildings have on our environment. Buildings are responsible for almost two-thirds of New York City’s greenhouse gas emissions and one-third across the state. This has huge implications for our climate, particularly as we race towards the goal of achieving net-zero by 2050.

By focusing on building decarbonization, The Clean Fight has set out to tackle one of the largest emitting sectors in our global battle with climate change. But in order to meet our collective goals, this industry must put sustainability and resilience at the fore -- and fast.

The Clean Fight, along with our partners The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority and New Energy Nexus, is taking this challenge head-on. Knowing that many breakthrough solutions already exist, The Clean Fight and our team of scaling experts, is on a mission to find the most promising growth-stage clean energy startups to quickly scale in New York. As New York looks to recover from the pandemic, supporting companies that boost economic opportunity and job creation across the state is crucial to the design of our program.

Helping Clean Energy Startups Win in New York

Our program

At the heart of the five-month program is a focus on facilitating demonstration projects through high-touch introductions to the leading New York real estate companies and related industries, such as Tishman Speyer, Hines, Boston Properties, Rudin, ConEd, Turner Construction, Gensler, Schneider Electric, Cosentini, Baltimore AirCoil, CodeGreen and HXE partners.

Our companies also receive tailored support across go-to-market strategy, project finance, manufacturing optimization, legislative strategy, channel partnerships, marketing and product development, in addition to the ability to apply for up to $500,000 in grants to fund resulting partnership agreements, all with no equity stake taken.

We want to give a special thanks to our Corporate Partners, Baltimore Aircoil Company, Boston Properties, CodeGreen Solutions, Con Edison, Cosentini Associates, Gensler, Hines, HXE Partners, Rudin Management, Schneider Electric, Tishman Speyer, and Turner Construction; our Investor Partners, including Breakthrough Energy Ventures, Camber Creek, Energy Impact Partners, Generate Capital, MetaProp, National Grid Partners, and Obvious Ventures; and our Strategic Partner, Sidewalk Infrastructure Partners, for making our first cohort such a success.

And we are just getting started.

This fall, we will launch our second cohort focused on high-growth, scalable innovations tackling clean energy and efficiency solutions in the mass-market of buildings. Those that are tough to crack but critical to decarbonize. Where many stakeholders don’t have the same access to resources and funding as their Class A brethren. Buildings that are more likely to house frontline and underserved communities, where the greening of buildings not only creates climate impacts, but disproportionate health, comfort and savings impacts.
