The Timeline

The prize was launched on October 11, 2023 by New York State Governor Kathy Hochul. Organizations are able to assess their eligibility, explore the details of the prize, read the full rules.

Applications are open until March 22, 2024

Applicants may choose to submit an optional abstract by 11:00pm ET on February 23, 2024. Abstracts will not carry weight during the evaluation process, but may provide useful feedback to applicants who are unsure if their solution meets the intent of the program.

Applicants must first register their intent to apply, after which the Abstract link will be made available.

Applicants must register their intent to apply by 11:00pm ET on March 15, 2024. This short form is focused on company and solution eligibility. After registering, the abstract and full application forms will become available to the applicant.

The full application must be submitted by 11:00pm ET on March 22, 2024.

During the evaluation period, the review committee and judging panel will assess the applications against the evaluation criteria, and make a recommendation on the Finalists.

Up to seven Finalists will be selected to participate in the prize.

The Finalists for the Empire Technology Prize will be announced in July 2024.

Up to seven Finalists will be selected for participation in the Prize, and will each receive a $250,000 payment upon selection.

During this one year period, Finalists will work to develop their solutions. Finalists will be eligible for up to an additional $750,000 milestone payment upon moving up one Level on the ETP progress chart.

In addition, a $2M Demonstration Funding Pool will be available to help offset the costs to Finalists and Real Estate Partners in installing pilots and demonstrations in the New York State market.

The review committee and judging panel will assess the Finalists against the evaluation criteria, and make the recommendation for the Winner.
