Description

Copper's 30" battery-backed Charlie induction stove plugs into a standard 120V/15a outlet — enabling kitchen electrification without rewiring. For buildings with ageing or shutoff gas lines, Charlie simplifies the process for building owners to update or restore cooking service. By eliminating gas combustion, the stove also improves indoor air quality and reduces health and safety risks. In addition, the stove's embedded lithium-ion battery enables it to function for up to two days during a power outage.

Cost Savings

Installing the Charlie stove can save a typical multifamily building between $3K-$15K per unit. Cost savings are higher in pre-war buildings where rewiring is impractical. In buildings with ageing gas infrastructure, avoided gas line decommissioning and replumbing increase cost savings. Operational Emissions

Copper’s energy storage-equipped induction stoves deliver significant environmental and greenhouse gas (GHG) benefits by reducing fossil fuel reliance in homes and optimizing grid energy use. By replacing natural gas or propane stoves, Copper eliminates direct emissions from combustion, including carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), and nitrogen dioxide (NO2). In a typical household, this transition can cut 80–120 kilograms of CO emissions annually.

Embodied Carbon

The Charlie stove uses lithium iron phosphate chemistry which has a lower embodied carbon than nickel manganese cobalt batteries, and is cobalt-free. The unit is designed for service and module-level battery replacement rather than full replacement, which extends product life.

Additional Considerations

To opperate the Charlie stove, induction-compatible cookware is needed (no aluminum or copper-bottom). For installation, a dedicated 120V/15A outlet within 72" of the stove is ideal, recessed if possible. No additional equipment required.

Other Screening Criteria

For buildings with stairs, it's critical to use the right equipment, such as a stair-climbing hand truck or lifting straps, as the stove is heavy. A tour of a specific building is required for multifamily projects to ensure successful installations.

Resident Experience

During Installation

Average installation time is less than one hour. This includes the time it takes to remove the legacy range, cap gas lines, and install the Copper range. Copper can be installed with tenants in place.

Post Installation

The Charlie stove offers a number health and wellbeing benefits for residents. Installing the Charlie stove reduces NO2, CO, and PM2.5 from combustion. Fire risk drops substantially: no open flame, no pilot light. The induction surface only heats ferrous cookware so the glass stays cool around the pan. Charlie ships with child lock, auto-shutoff if a pan is removed, overheat protection, and pan-detection so a burner won't power on without cookware. For multifamily owners, eliminating gas in the unit also reduces gas leak risk.

Pricing starts at $5,999. Multifamily and utility pricing is lower at volume; contact Copper for project pricing. Total installed cost is almost always less than gas-to-electric alternatives once panel upgrades, gas decommissioning, and rewiring are accounted for.

Ongoing Costs

Under typical NY rates and household cooking patterns, residents see roughly $3-$30/month more on the electric bill, partially offset by elimination of any fixed gas service charges if the building drops gas.

Operations and Maintenance Requirements

Copper can monitor system performance remotely over time to identify and address ongoing issues. No routine maintenance for owners and residents beyond a standard wipe-down cleaning of the glass top.

Ease of Operations

Onsite training included for multifamily deployments, typically 30 minutes per resident cohort. Multilingual quick-start guide and full user manual are provided.

Service Support

Copper operates a service team partner network for in-New York service calls. In addition there is a two-year limited warranty on every stove. Most issues are resolved remotely via diagnostics; physical service calls are dispatched same-week in the NYC metro area.

Future Proofing

The Charlie stove removes a building's exposure to gas shutoffs from LL152 inspections. Once a unit installs Charlie, that kitchen no longer depends on gas. Portfolio owners running LL152 risk assessments can use Charlie to take the kitchen line item out of the gas-dependence equation. Charlie is also Virtual Power Plant-ready, with grid services and tariff-aware charging capabilities in development. Buying today doesn't lock owners out of future grid revenue.
