Meet the Ten Companies in The Clean Fight’s ‘Deploy Now’ Energy Storage Program

We are delighted to announce the ten groundbreaking companies that will make up the latest edition of The Clean Fight’s Deployment Accelerator, focused on increasing the pace of energy storage deployment in New York State over the next 12-18 months.

This is a critical moment for New York’s grid. The electricity needs of communities across the state are rapidly growing — from new hospitals, critical infrastructure and large load facilities coming online, to more frequent hazardous weather events intensifying demand for backup power, to electric vehicles becoming more widespread and heating systems modernizing through electrification. Deploying energy storage will enable New York to realize a reliable, flexible grid that can unlock clean, affordable energy for all. But to get energy storage where it’s needed at speed, we need to be innovative about what, when, and how we deploy.

In collaboration with the New York Battery and Energy Storage Technology Consortium (NY-BEST), and with support from New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), New Energy New York (NENY) and the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA), we’ve selected novel energy storage solutions — what we’re calling ‘Deploy Now’ solutions — ready to meet this moment. These are solutions that turn regulatory, spatial, and economic constraints into a competitive advantage, enabling immediate deployment. From consumer batteries developed for dense, urban environments, and alternative chemistry technologies created with safety at their core, to the latest thermal and geothermal storage systems, and software platforms that help to get more storage online more efficiently, and get the most out of existing assets. The selected companies are:

LITHIUM-ION AND ALTERNATIVE CHEMISTRIES

  • EticaAG provides non-flammable, immersion-cooled lithium-ion Battery Energy Storage Systems for data centers, urban environments, and other safety-sensitive sites where conventional storage often faces permitting, insurance, and community acceptance barriers..

  • Inlyte’s core technology is a 2-in-1 long-duration energy storage battery made from naturally abundant and inexpensive raw materials — primarily, iron and sodium chloride (table salt). Their high-performance, community-friendly solution is suitable for commercial, industrial, residential, and utility-scale deployments.

  • Peak Energy's NFPP sodium-ion battery technology is the world's first commercially- deployed, passively-cooled grid-scale battery system, eliminating active cooling, pumps, fans, and other maintenance-intensive components. The result is a radically simpler energy storage system with fewer failure points, lower operating costs, improved reliability, and predictable performance over decades of operation.

THERMAL AND GEOTHERMAL STORAGE

  • Dig offers a low cost, modular drilling technology that enables geothermal heating, cooling, refrigeration, and storage to be deployed at scale. By reducing drill costs by 80%, they unlock affordable, reliable, onsite thermal energy for buildings.

  • Enersion provides a high-density thermal energy storage system using advanced phase change materials that enables up to 6x more energy storage within a significantly smaller footprint, making it ideal for space-constrained urban environments.

  • Elstor has developed a modular thermal energy storage system that stores electricity from the cheapest hours of the day as heat (500°C). That stored energy can then be flexibly discharged as steam and heat for utility, district energy, and industrial applications.

MODULAR BATTERIES

  • Pila provides a sleek, plug-in home battery system that turns everyday appliances like refrigerators into backup power hubs — empowering homes to be energy independent while strengthening the power grid. All without the need for professional installation or a full electrical retrofit.

  • PopWheels delivers a network of battery swap stations for e-bike delivery workers - instead of waiting hours to recharge, riders swap out a dead battery for a fully charged one in under a minute.

ENERGY INFRASTRUCTURE SOFTWARE

  • Electron helps utilities and DERs make better use of the millions of small, distributed energy sources already connected to the grid, so they can unlock more value and deliver reliable, affordable power. They provide the tools to see, secure, and prove the value of DERs and flexibility — enabling cost-effective grid expansion.

  • Paces helps renewable energy developers find the right sites and navigate the permitting and grid connection process faster by integrating thousands of data layers on top of proprietary AI workflows, so clean energy projects get built in years rather than decades.

“Deploying energy storage is key to realizing a future that is not only cleaner and more energy-secure, but healthier and safer for our families, communities, and planet. We’re thrilled to welcome this innovative cohort with solutions poised to fill key gaps and transform the pace of deployment in New York,” said The Clean Fight’s Managing Director Kate Frucher.

The goal of The Clean Fight’s Deployment Accelerator is to facilitate the adoption of high-impact climate solutions in New York State, to drive an accessible energy transition and create economic opportunity for all. We do this by sourcing proven solutions from across the U.S. and around the world and providing them with high-touch business development with customer partners and developers, matchmaking with capital providers, and eligibility to apply for grant funding up to $100k to facilitate demonstration projects in the state. To date, The Clean Fight has helped more than 70+ companies scale their solutions in New York, and program alumni have secured $800M+ in follow-on funding, deployed 10,000+ follow-on projects, and created 900 jobs in manufacturing, construction, and technology.

Our outstanding customer partners include utilities Con Edison and National Grid; city and state agencies New York City Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS) and New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC); developers and operators CutPeak Energy, NineDot Energy, and Orenda Power, and more. These are leaders in the field looking to strengthen New York State’s grid and reinforce the State as a hub for energy storage innovation, development, and manufacturing.

Our fantastic annual capital partners will also work with our cohort companies to find the right financial solutions to support their growth, from venture capital, venture debt, credit, project finance, working capital, and more. Our capital partners include Aligned Climate Capital, Amalgamated Bank, Breakthrough Energy Ventures, Broadscale, Energy Impact Partners, Homecoming Capital, NYCEEC, NY Green Bank, S2G Investments, the Schmidt Family Foundation, SFV, Silicon Valley Bank, and Stifel
